Pendle Vale College is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school in Nelson, Lancashire.

History

The school opened in September 2006 as part of the first wave of a nationwide 10-15 year programme of capital investment funded by the Department for Education and Skills called Building Schools for the Future. It occupied the site of the former Walton High School its new buildings, were completed in September 2008.

The College will offer a range of extended services including Careers, Social Services, Educational Welfare, Youth and Community, Health and Welfare services.

Pendle Vale College has an excellent range of facilities. The £32 million site includes classrooms with extensive ICT facilities, a sporting centre with a huge sports hall, rock climbing wall, multi-gym and all-weather pitches. There is also creative and performing arts provision, including music studios, dance and drama suites. Adult learners and the community will also be able to use these facilities.

Attainment

In 2007, 34% of Year 11 students achieved 5 A*-C GCSE passes including English Language and Mathematics (national average 46.7%). The school's value-added measure was 981.9 (national average 1000).

In 2008, 58% of Year 11 students achieved 5 A*-C GCSE passes, this was the second significant improvement in results since Pendle Vale opened in place of Walton high School. The College also achieved the highest 5 A*-C including English and Maths in Burnley and Pendle.

In 2008 an Ofsted inspection of year 7 provision rated Pendle Vale College as 'Good' in all areas.

Building

Pendle Vale College has many rooms for many activities and lessons, such as Dance Hall, Fitness room with uptodate new technology equipment and many other facilities. The school has a track around the whole site where students and teachers can spend their time walking or running on it, enjoying themselves. There are music rooms for students to practise pieces for school performances. There is an auditorium where students regularly meet for assemblies. There is also a cafe, a balcony where students can eat and a cafeteria.
